"George Bennard, was a native of Youngstown, Ohio but was reared in Iowa. After his conversion in a Salvation Army meeting, he and his wife became brigade leaders before leaving the organization for the Methodist Church. As a Methodist evangelist, Bennard wrote the first verse of the gospel song, "The Old Rugged Cross" in Albion, Michigan, in the fall of 1912.Bennard himself said that it was 1913. Kenneth W. Osbeck, 101 Hymn Stories (Grand Rapids: Kregel Publications, 1982), 255. Charles H. Gabriel, a well-known gospel-song composer helped Bennard with the harmonies.William J. Reynolds, Songs of Glory: Stories of 300 Great Hymns and Gospel Songs (Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1990), 219-20. The completed version was first performed on June 7th, 1913, by a choir of five in Pokagon Michigan. Published in 1915, the song was popularized during Billy Sunday evangelistic campaigns by two members of his campaign staff, Homer Rodeheaver (who bought rights to the song for $500) and Virginia Asher, who were perhaps also the first to record it in 1921. The Old Rugged Cross uses a sentimental popular song form with a verse/chorus pattern in 3/4 time, and it speaks of the writer's Christian experience rather than his adoration of God. Voter Fraud Acorn - and my right to vote!

I have been reading much about ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) and the many alleged abuses and voter fraud within this organizations.

I believe in our right to vote, but I see it more as a privilege and responsibility than a "right." Frankly, I do not believe everyone should have this right. For example, felons and illegals and some who cannot make rational decisions should not be allowed to vote. Society has always placed limitations on voting.

Those who oppose this sound more patriotic, but in truth they are helping to diminish the voting power of others. Our founding fathers recognized this, although they were not perfect in their enforcement and interpretations as well.

When anyone (like ACORN) is accused of voter fraud it must be taken seriously. The right to vote of all society in the U.S. is at jeopardy!

Agape is the New Testament Greek word for the strongest form of love. It describes that infinite love that God has for us in that he gave hs only begotten Son that we might have eternal life.

After Simon Peter bragged about his own love for Christ, Jesus told him that he would repeatedly deny his LORD. The Gospel of John records this denial. However, after the resurrection of Christ, Jesus appears to the disciples and asks Peter, "Do you love (agape) me?" Twice Jesus used this word and twice Peter answered now with a lesser from of the word love (phileo - deep friendship). Now, Jesus asks Peter the third time, "Do you love (phileo) me? There was no more bragging in Peter, although Simon greatly loved Jesus! Peter wasw now ready to serve Christ.

Do you need to be wearing a medical alert bracelet?

A few years ago my wife's father had passed away and my wife and I were both under heavy stress. I overdosed my insulin, and about 2 A.M. fell into a diabetic coma (sugar leve was 20 - dangerous). Are You Worth Your Salt

Diabetics and Heart Attacks

We are very familiar with diabetes. Walter, my husband, is an insulin dependent diabetic. He has had many health complications. However, so far there is not heart complications of diabetes.
